Stunning antique Holy Bible. The Bible has a leather cover and spine, it is brass bound with two brass hinged locks that fold up and clip the book closed. On the cover it has the words 'Glorious Gospel Blessed God', on the spine it says 'Holy Bible - Illustrated'. The leather is impressed with attractive decorations and patterns. On the inside it has a hand written inscription 'Presented to Aposolie Church Leomister by Mr J.T. Hancox, Gateway Lane, Leomister, 16.12.51'. The Bible includes 'An extensive introduction - marginal references and illustrations, an exact summary of the several books, a paraphrase on the most obscure or important parts, explanatory notes, evangelical reflections etc etc ... by the late Rev.John Brown'. Also includes 'numerous coloured illustrations in oil and on steel'. There are some wonderful illustrations, still bright and colourful, some under a protective leaf. The pages have some slight discolouration, but nothing major. The spine has some wear, as to be expected, some splitting to the leather, there is some general wear consistant with age, but overall it is in good condition. It is a stunning collectors book.
