The thirteen Georgian homilies presented here probably date from the beginning of the ninth century. Their author, Iohannes Bolniensis, bishop of the Caucasis, is not otherwise known, but his work is a faithful reflection of the ancient liturgy of Jerusalem which was still being practiced in Georgia in Iohannes's time; two centuries later Georgia aligned itself with the liturgy of Constantinople
